Some problems are easy to find; for example, "My car won't start", can probably be diagnosed fairly easily.  However, other problems are not as easy.  "It worked OK yesterday but is sluggish today", or "Sometimes my car runs really rough, but it isn't now" are not detailed descriptions of problems but could be the only way you can find to accurately describe what you are experiencing.

Bring a list of what symptoms are to be fixed, including any related observations.  If your car runs rough, makes a noise, shakes, etc., but not all the time, such a list could help us diagnose the problem.  Is it totally random, or is it only under certain conditions?  Even if you don't think a noise is important it could help in the diagnosis.
